Threes a charm: Charming and talented artists you might not know.

As I didn't get any volunteers for the Wednesday, it meant that I had the perfect excuse to talk about a few of my favourite Contemporary artists/groups that you might not have heard of and are definitely missing out on.

ASHLEAF. LONDON

I'm going to start with introducing you all to Ash Leaf, who create stunning botanical leaf sculptures and wall displays. Each leaf is carefully selected with beauty and form in mind and 'captured in bronze, from transience to permanence'. They embody natures distinct colour and shape variations rendering them in a permanent state of being. Their work transcends a harmony with nature, inviting it into an interior setting.

"Our practice results from a twenty-year search for excellence in casting bronze at the Crucible Foundry. We make unique botanical sculpture by exploring and recording the life of plants through their leaves. We have adapted the traditional lost wax casting process in order to preserve the most characteristic features of leaves: surface texture, form and silhouette. We capture their fragility in robust bronze to the finest detail. What remains is an artwork that embodies the life cycles of leaf, tree and land - the ephemeral caught in a bronze moment." PIPISTRELLE DESIGN.
Keeping sculpture in mind we move onto the work of Pipistrelle with her hand sculpted ceramic and porcelain home ware and jewellery. She specialises in clay because of its tactility and 'infinite possibilities'. Her work encompasses her subjects texture and form into beautifully decorative replicants of mushrooms and sting rays, whilst incorporating and retaining an element of practicality.

"I use traditional pottery techniques such as hand building, sculpting and throwing on the potters wheel to create decorative and functional artworks, and finish using a variety of glazes, oxides and lustres." (Pipistrelle)

VICTORIA CLARE GRAY
Since I was a wee pup at college, Victoria has always been an important addition within my sketchbooks constantly inspiring and motivating me. Her attention and love for the complex entanglement of detail always resonated within me.

"Through her Pen & Ink practice you’ll come to realise themes of growth and abundance but also doubt and vulnerability." (Victoria Gray)
